CC Fest NYC - December 8, 2019 

CC Fest is back in New York on December 8, Sunday, at NYU-ITP from 10 am to 3 pm. This event welcomes all middle and high school students and teachers. Elementary school students need to come with a parent. You can see the location and RSVP below.

Aankit Patel (he/him) is a creative bureaucrat. He is currently the University Director of STEM Education Programs @cunyteachered. He is formerly the Senior Director of Computer Science Academics, and an @NYU-ITP alum. Cares about #EthicalCS, accessible ways to talk to computers, and public education.

Chancey Fleet, a Brooklyn-based accessibility advocate, coordinates technology education programs at the New York Public Library’s Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library. Chancey was recognized as a 2017 Library Journal Mover and Shaker. She writes and presents to disability rights groups, policy-makers, and professionals about the intersections of disability and technology. During her fellowship, she plans to advance public understanding of and explore best practices for visual interpreter services as well as other technologies for accessibility whose implications resonate with the broader global conversations about digital equity, data ethics, and privacy. She proudly serves as the Vice President of the National Federation of the Blind of New York.


Sessions:

Visualize It: Tell a unique story of a location with artistic maps made in Python. Using geospatial data, this session will teach the building blocks of machine learning in a fun and creative way- data visualization.

Intro to p5.js: Never written a line of code before? Not a problem. Come learn the basics and be creating digital art in under an hour.

Computational Portraits in p5.js: Take your selfie to the next level with computational portraits! This workshop will teach you how to build animated portraits in p5.js. You'll learn to upload images and use pixel data to make creative, dynamic portraits with code.

Making Adventure Games with Javascript and the Wick Editor: Learn how to create a point and click adventure game using JavaScript and the Wick Editor, a free tool for making games, animations and interactive projects. We'll combine drawings, animations, and a a small amount of code to create our projects. No experience required!

Earsketch: EarSketch helps you learn coding through music. Use sounds from the EarSketch library or your own sounds, along with Python or JavaScript code, to produce studio quality music.

Creating Interactive Tutorials on OpenProcessing: Turn any sketch into a step-by-step tutorial for your students. In this lighting-workshop, we will learn how to write interactive tutorials, see a few good examples in action, and share it with our fictional class.


 

RSVP - Please use this form to sign up as a teacher, student, session leader, or volunteer at CC Fest.

 

Teachers - You can come to learn about creative coding and spend the day planning on it using it in your class. 

Students - You can come learn about different creative coding projects and spend the day remixing them.

Session leader - An educator willing to lead a session to teach students and teachers. 

Volunteer - You use p5.js or some other creative coding tool, methodology and want to share with students and teachers.
